New Tasmanian trout fly patterns

We’ve just added some of our favourite fly patterns to the online shop. These include two fly patterns that we rely on every season, the Scruffy and Simon’s Midge, along with some other proven pattern and classic Tasmanian ties.

You can check out the new Scruffy, Simon’s Midge, Hi-Viz Cripple, Flashback Potscrubber Nymph, Fiery Brown Beetle and Red Tags on our flies page.

Chernobyl Ant

One of Australia’s favourite modern flies, the Chernobyl Ant, is now available as a tied-to-order fly from FlyShop 1864. Check it out under ‘Dry Flies’…

Fuzzle Bugger Mk2

Originally created by cutting-edge fly tier Muz Wilson, the Fuzzle Bugger is our absolute favourite wet fly for early season prospecting along lake edges and shallow flats. We’ve created a Mk2 variation for Tasmanian waters, where the bright tail flashes mimic those of the Tasmanian froglet during frogging season.

Claret Dabbler

Claret Dabbler

We’ve just added the Claret Dabbler to our list of tied-to-order flies. Many lake guides will tell you that this is the fly to have during any Arthurs Lake or Little Pine dun hatches. It can be fished as a wet, but really excels when fished in the surface film, and momentarily ‘hung’ and twitched along the surface at the end of a retrieve. It’s one of our favourites!

Possum Emerger, Stick Caddis and Pheasant and Peacock Nymph now available

We’ve just added three more popular patterns to our webshop. All are favourites from our fly box, and tied by Daniel Hackett:

The Possum Emerger – A favourite Tasmanian mayfly emerger

The Stick Caddis – An excellent general purpose nymph, espcially on hard to fool trout

The Pheasant and Peacock Nymph – great on streams such as the St Patricks, Mersey and South Esk rivers.

All are available now, tied-to-order from our online shop
