Launceston is the river fishing capital of Tasmania. Famous Australian rivers including the South Esk, Brumbys Creek, Maquarie and Meander rivers are all within 25 minutes of town, and feature the best mayfly hatches and grasshopper falls in Australia. The trout are wild browns, and the fishing is mixed and varied, ranging from stalking small creeks, to wading medium sized rivers, to rafting large slow flowing meadow streams.
